About Emma…

From a young age, Emma has been interested in design and art. She was so committed that she traveled extensively to study in Sydney. After graduating in 2004, Emma has been doing makeup ever since!

In 2007, Emma added a Diploma of Beauty Therapy to her qualifications, taking her knowledge and understanding of the skin to the next level.

While working nationally for a paramedical skin care company, Emma discovered her passion for teaching makeup to others and went on to become an educator in the makeup industry.

Emma managed and taught at a private makeup college in Newcastle for 6 years. It was during this time that Emma’s need to continually improve and learn was fueled further. She started to do more courses and research to keep herself as up to date as possible with current trends and technology.

After conversing with numerous clients, Emma discovered that there was a true gap in the market - where people who wear makeup regularly don’t necessarily appreciate how to best apply it to suit their features. And so, Emma began providing private makeup lessons. Emma has taught those who are just starting to wear makeup in their teens, more mature clientele who’s needs tend to change or want a refresh of their application, middle aged clients who want to look their best, through to transitioning transgender clients who would like to feminise their face. Everyone is welcome to learn how to best apply makeup to suit their features. At the end of your lesson you’ll walk away feeling confident, educated and able to highlight the best version of yourself.

Emma’s business, Newcastle Makeup, specialises in custom private lessons, and makeup applications that celebrate your natural features. Every face is different and every person has different makeup needs. Emma takes the time to ensure she understands her clients and what they desire.

How much are your services? please check the pricing page, or click the button below

How do I pay? Payment can be made via direct transfer, PAY ID, or correct cash.

Where do I find the bank details? Emma will let you know via your enquiry method.

Can I bring someone else to my appointment? Emma’s little home studio is equipped for a one on one appointment. There is one more chair in the room, however any more than that and it can get a bit squishy.

What should I wear to my appointment? Please wear comfortable clothing. If you are getting you makeup and hair done, you will need a shirt that either opens at the front (zip or buttons) or can easily stretch over head. If you are a bride, consider wearing white so Emma can ensure you makeup balances well.

What do I need to do to my face prior to my makeup application appointment or lesson? Please come with no makeup on. Moisturiser and SPF is fine. Emma will prepare your skin when you arrive. Makeup removal takes up too much time that could otherwise be spent learning or putting to good use.

Do you travel? Most of the appointments are done in Emma’s home studio. However, if travel is required, there is a travel fee. Private makeup lessons are held in Emma’s home studio unless it is a group of 3 or more.

Do you require a deposit? Yes. A one time deposit locks in your booking. Please see the terms and conditions on the pricing page.

What do I need to do to my hair so it’s ready for styling? Please wash your hair prior to the appointment (come with clean hair) and refrain from putting any products in. Emma will prep the hair and rely on particular products to obtain the style you require.

What if I don’t own many products? Should I buy some before more lesson? Just bring along what you have. Please do not go buying products before your lesson. Emma will help you learn what is suitable in the lesson and will give you a list of recommendations.

Can I request a ‘quite session’? yes! Some clients like to sit quietly and relax. Others simply aren’t up for a chat and that’s fine too. Just let Emma know in your enquiry. Emma still has to ask a few questions and direct you as while applying makeup and doing hair, but otherwise it can be a quite, relaxing experience.

Are you a trans friendly makeup artist? Absolutely! Emma offers makeup lessons for those who are transitioning no matter where they are on their journey. Emma has also created a makeup guide called ‘The feminine face - basic steps towards creating a more feminine-looking face with the use of makeup’ which is available from the shop on this website
